New Blog!

Someone near and dear to my heart has decided to spout off about running.  Check it out here!

Perhaps if he gets enough interest, he'll do a "peeves" post about running.........

Have a great weekend everyone!

He did it!!

Brrrrrr........marathon morning got off to a chilly start here in Chi town. It was only 38 when Blair left the house. I think the high only got to around 47!! Yikes! Luckily, though, he prefers cold weather to warm, and he was really happy about the race conditions. I saw him at mile 8 where I waited with friends, again at mile 16 where I ran with him for about 3 minutes to fish the advil out of my bag, and gave him a huge hug at the end of the race. I waited at mile 20 for him for about a 1/2 hour, but totally missed him. I was bummed because I knew that was going to be the hardest stretch of the race. However, he did great anyway! He knew he could finish in 4:40, but his ultimate goal was 4:30. He ended up at 4:29:45. 15 seconds ahead of his goal time. He did say that he really picked it up for about the last two miles because he knew he was within reach of his goal. Can you imagine trying to run faster 24 miles in? Uggg. But he totally did it! He said yesterday was one of his top 5 days ever- isn't that awesome??? I did clarify to make sure our wedding day was on that list (it is!). After we got home (2ish) he showered, and we made our way over to a local pub for burgers and beers with friends. It was nice to celebrate with other people! He was sore last night, but he's in much worse condition this a.m. I'm glad he has the massage apt for this evening. I hope it will really help him get fully stretched and relaxed. The advil he popped all day yesterday (and I'm sure today) should help his sore knees! Any post-race advice is welcome!! I am SO proud of B. Truly, all his hard work, dedication, and desires were thrown out there for the world to see yesterday, and he nailed it! It's just awesome to see someone you love do well at something they have worked so hard for. Is this what all the mom's out there feel like when their little ones accomplish new skills or their older ones hit the winning home run? Seriously, it's the best!! I'll try to post pics when I can! I hope you all had equally exciting weekends and that you can find something that happened that makes you so thankful to be alive! It's going to be a crazy week here but I won two giveaways that I'm going to give a shout out for and I have some fun news to announce as well!

Great Success!!!

We just got back from the Wrigley Start Early 10K!!! B wanted to let everyone know that I ran 10,000,000 millimeters!! That doesn't sound very long- I think 6.2 miles sounds a lot longer! Anyway, I did it! I ran the whole thing without walking and without dying (a feat in and of itself). We completed the race in 1 hr 27 seconds. I'm kind of bummed that it wasn't under an hour, but it was still under 10 minute miles. Per B's Garmin, we tracked it at 6.3 actual miles which put us at 9 min 36 second miles. Not bad for my first race!

Toward the end of this race, the walkers met up with the runners, which was slightly annoying because we had to run around lots of strollers. I don't think it would have changed much, but it was frustrating. It was, however, really cool to see so many people up and at em on a gorgeous Saturday morning and fun to see the dogs that were running with their owners for the 5K. I have doggy fever so badly!!

We're just home and showered, so it's time to get ready for our lunch date!! We're going to sit outside somewhere- it's gorgeous here in Chi town!!

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend. We did take a few pics before and after the race, so if I have time tomorrow, I'll get them up here so you can see me in all my sweaty glory. I'm sure you're dying to see it :)

I'm really doing it!

Well, it's official!! I'm running my first 10K on April 18th. Wow. The training is going well (read: I haven't died yet and I haven't skipped a run), so I'm hoping I'll finish without walking! Anyone want to join B and I???

So proud!!

Girls, I am NOT a runner. Never have been. I'll go out and run with B if the weather is perfect or if we're up north and don't go to the gym. The farthest I've ever run is 3.5 miles, and I always hate it. I love the eliptical, I love classes, I love lifting weights, but running just isn't me.

So, I married a man who loves to run!! This is new for him in the past three years, but he loves it enough that he's running the Chicago marathon this fall. He's been wanting me to run a 10K for the longest time, and I have never agreed to do this. I've done a few 5Ks and a sprint distance triathalon and have done fine with them, but 6.2 miles????? That's crazy!!

A few weeks ago, we were talking about it again and there is a 10K race here in Chicago at the end of April. It's the start of the official marathon training program. B, again, asked me if I wanted to do it. I have sort of agreed to do this (again, I may just be crazy!). I've decided that I'll train for 3 weeks, and if I feel confident at that stage, I'll officially sign up.

So last week I had to complete 2, 2.5, and 3 mile runs throughout the week. Each and every run was miserable and I couldn't do one without stopping. I really dislike running on treadmill as it is, and it's must much easier to stop (because I don't have to get home like I do when I'm running outside). Today I went to the gym knowing I had to run 2.5 miles. I got there, started running, and I felt great. I mean like really good, no cramps, strong legs, etc. I just decided that I would keep running until I was ready to stop------ AND I RAN 4 MILES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never done this, ever, and I felt really good when I stopped. So maybe the rest of the runs this week will also be good as long as I keep practicing? Girls, there might be a 10K in me somewhere!!! WooHoo!!

**Maybe this running combined with the sweets I've given up for Lent will help me lose 8-10 lbs so that I'll be hot for our honeymoon????**
