Big boy rooms

I am starting to dream about Spencer's "big boy" room.  Before Spence was born, we knew his nursery would always stay the nursery, and that he would have to move up when any subsequent kids were born.  While we aren't on the path of having to move him up yet, I still find myself daydreaming about where we are going to go with his room.  I figure if I start looking for pieces now, I won't feel so pressured to "have" to buy something just because I "need" it, I can search and wait for the right pieces to come along and fall into place.

When we did the nursery, I knew exactly what I wanted.  Even though we didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, I wanted the nursery to be blue and white.  I love blue, B was on board, and I knew that we could easily accent with pink in key places to make it "girlier".  I still feel that the room will be perfect for a girl if God blesses us with one- I have the perfect spot for her monogram!

So, what to do when SYT moves into his new room?  I adore navy and white with red accents and I've always wanted to do his room in these colors.  B is fine with this as long as the room doesn't scream "You're a Grand Old Flag, You're a high flying Flag".    Spencer's future room is quite large with a good size closet and a great indented spot that we're hoping to find a great bookshelf for.  We already have two twin beds that will remain in there as well.

A few of my inspiration rooms are below.....

(love this, but white coverlets with a toddler boy??  I think that may be a bad decision.)

I love the idea of a bold statement wall, whether it is stripes, a sail, or two really cool headboards (we've talked about making them ourselves!).  We definitely are leaning towards a loose version of a nautical theme as well.  Anything above strike your fancy?  Any ideas you want to share with me?

Puddin's Nursery

The before (I took these pictures during the house inspection)

The After:

The shelf- we painted it, added glass knobs, and added some of my music boxes from when I was a child (I think I have about 20 total).  If it's a girl, the outfit will be switched out for a smocked dress.

The wall with the window faces the front of the house.  The empty spot under the shelf will be where the glider will sit.  It's a white Dutalier that is coming.

The top of the dresser will become the changing station.  We got the dresser and side table on craigslist for $45.  They are solid wood with dovetail dressers- so sturdy and solid.  They were just a hideous green when we got them, but painting them white made all the difference.  We do have pulls on them now- they're silver.  You can see in this pic that we painted all the trim, the closet doors, the molding around the window.  It took a long time, but it is totally worth it.  It would not have looked even close to as good if it were still the natural wood color!!  We're leaving the wood trim in most of the house, but I love the white in here!

The incredible lattice wall.  B worked SO hard on it.  It truly took a lot of math and a ton of pencil lines (all which then had to be erased!).  As you know from my previous post, I shamelessly stole the wall idea from one of the writers over at Project Nursery (and I'm so glad we did.  I LOVE IT!).  The rocking horse was mine and my brother's as children.

The sheets and quilt for the crib.  The sheets are from PB Kids and the quilt is from Zara Home.  We picked it up in Spain hoping it wouldn't jinx us!!

The wall reflected in the mirror that is hanging over the dresser.  The mirror will probably get a big pink ribbon over top of it if Puddin ends up being a girl.

Another shot of the crib.  The empty blue wall is going to get a white frame and we are going to have a piece of heavy white cotten monogrammed with Puddin's initials and then go into the frame.  The initials will be scrolly pink if it's a girl and block navy if it's a boy.  I had originally thought red for the boy, but B thinks navy will look great without taking away from the wall.

The chandelier with the light off.  A great Home Depot purchase!!

Hope you enjoyed the tour!  I can't wait til the guests come for the shower at the end of the month and they get to see it as well.  It's by far the most "done" room in our new house, and we're both so happy with the results.

Sooooo cute!!!!

How could you NOT want this nursery????  I'm dying over it!

Oops- only have the pic showed up here, head over to the site to see it in full.  I'm sure it's WAY out of our price range, but I would die to have a monogrammed rug and valance as shown.  Seriously, it's soo cute.  I bet if I made a box valance (they're not hard) I could have a friend monogram it.  Hmmmm.....something to consider!

Our inspiration nursery

Project Nursery was a blog I came across a year ago and added it to my reader right away.  I love, love, love the ideas on the site and knowing we wanted babies eventually, I figured it would be a great space to get inspiration from.  The author is one of the owners of Little Apple Designs out of LA, and she posts some of her own work as well as "real people" and other designer's nurseries.

This picture just happened to be one of the pictures I consistently went back to, and as soon as I showed it to B, he totally agreed that it was perfect for our nursery.  What's funny is that it's actually the blogger's son's room!!  I love that it's traditional, clean, and with just a few accents it can be perfect for a boy or girl.

Now, some of you will say that this is totally a baby's boy room, and I can see that for sure.  However, B and I adore the color blue, love the classic white furniture, and the lattice work on the accent wall is soooo cute.  B and I both think that it needs some cute accents for it to be made a little more girly, so we are adding a white, slightly ruffle-y bedskirt to the bottom of our crib, we are trying to find a white ornate 8x10 picture frame to frame a monogram over the crib, and our shelves will have pegs below them so that we can hang a white or light pink classic (probably smocked) dress.

We have picked out a white chenille rocker for the room (scotchguarded of course!) and are looking for a white toybox.  While the dresser looks fantastic in this room, we have made the bold choice to add one big pop of color and instead will be going with this if it's a girl..........

Doesn't that pink accent dresser just pop against those blue beds?  It's just the perfect amount of girly!  I think with the few other small girly details (like a pink grosgrain ribbon holding up the monogrammed frame)the typical light blue and white all boy nursery will be able to be transformed into a sweet, perfectly appropriate girls room.

If the baby is a boy, the dresser is going to be fire engine red and the monogram will have a red bow for it's pops of color, just in case you're wondering!

We have sanded the dresser down and are going to give it one coat of white paint and primer all in one.  Once the baby arrives and the parental units come to stay with us, we're going to have one of the grandfathers paint it the appropriate color.  It'll be a good job to keep them busy!

If any of you have any great nursery suggestions or other ideas, I'd love to hear them!  Also, if you have any recommendations on where to find a darling sheep rocker like the one in the first picture, let me know.  If you hate everything above and think I'm completely crazy, it's cool- just don't let me know :)
